porr little dog

We lost our very old Cocker lady a year ago and I have been gently nagging my OH for a while to get another little dog from a rescue centre. About two weeks ago I spotted a dear little Caniche ( poodle ) who was in the dog Pound in a local town. He was on another forum with pix and he was so sweet. I found out today that he is possibly dead, to be confirmed, and he was only four years old and so lovely. He apparently died of a Gastric Hemmorage (sp ). I am devasted as I think OH was almost on the verge of saying yes and now I wonder if we had taken him out of there would he still be alive today. I also wonder if all the other dogs in there are now at risk of getting this gastric condition. I am a sad lady tonight and I keep seeing his little face so scared in the cage he was in...sob...sob

I don't think a poodle is any match for a cocker. Molly, so keep nagging!

Molly, life is full of "if only"; one can't take in every poor animal one sees, sadly. We can always make sure though that the ones(s) we choose have the best possible life we can give them, so that we never regret our own behaviour.
GJ, altho' a Poodle wouldn't be my first choice either, every animal has their own character and worth. Poodle's are highly intelligent dogs, and there is a cross Poodle/Labrador, which are used as Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The trouble is, they keep taking you to the hairdressers, whether you want to go or not!

I had a couple of rescue Poodles many, many years ago and they were delightful little dogs. I never had them clipped in the poofy pompom way just sheared all over like a normal dog. It can be a bit pricey every six weeks or so unless you have a clipping set which a lot of people have. My eldest son in UK has a moblie dog grooming business and doing very well covering a large area. He gave up a job a a Prison Officer to do this as he found that job getting far too stressful. He is ex army and a trained dog handler which comes in useful with some of the dogs he has in his van at times.

I have found a Chocolate Brown Cocker Spaniel that needs a home and I am going to phone about him tomorrow. I have had some pix of him sent to me and he is lovely. He is 4 years old, same age as my loopy Labrador, and the Cocker is used to dogs so hopefully no problems there as our Lab is a softy and just wants to play. Although at the moment he is in my bad books as next doors lady dog we think is in season and she keeps coming into our garden. She climbs through the rails in our front gates so OH has put some wire over the part she get through so hopfully I will not have to get up at 1-30am, again at 4-30 am and again at 7-30 am because she was at our French doors crying for our Lab and he was barking and thrashing around to get to her. It is all in his mind as he probably couldn't do much but what a racket...horny little s*d.

Round here there is a retired farmer who cannot keep his bitch in when she is on season. Why can the French not seem to cope with this? I suppose they believe that every dog must have his (her) day.

Surely the French do not want a house full of puppies but then I have heard they just " dispose " of them at birth. My Lab is driving us crazy as although she cannot get into the garden now she just sits at the gate and he goes crazy and pants, jumps and whines. She is such a pretty little girl and I could never hurt her but she is so brazen and does not take any notice when I scream at her to b**ger off. He is even off his food and is soooooo in love.

Totally natural in the animal world - except for blokes!
